I thought I would share some effective websites and podcasts that have helped me over the years with my writing career. I have shared these with many people and it has been awhile since I have shared a few with my blog readers. My first book Junior Size Faith did well enough, nevertheless what I didn’t do is write a sequel to that book. You will find that this is ONE of the biggest mistakes that any new author makes. It is repeated again and again as a theme of WHAT NOT TO DO through most of the sites I am going to share here. Write, Write and Write some more! When you are done writing—WRITE SOME MORE! I am working on a series of urban fantasy projects now and a few are being tested by beta readers. YaY!

Now, on to my list~

First off, if you have not found Joanna Penn’s website the Creative Penn (with a double n) then you are missing a lot of helpful information that can start you on the road to publishing. She also produces a podcast on YouTube where she interviews other helpful authors that can inspire you to write, along with helpful tips from finance to writing platforms. If you have been at this awhile, I am sure you have heard of Joanna!

A great blog site for authors to get the ‘down and dirty’ of the differences between the big publishing houses and self-publishing is J. A. Konrath’s blog site for Newbie to Publishing. A wealth of information for anyone wanting a crash course for Newbies in this business.

I am going to offer this next site with a little bit of trepidation, not because these guys give bad information but because they have the worst potty mouths this side of a Navy Pier. HOWEVER, they are helpful when it comes to creating worlds, formatting, author interviews, and genre hopping (Which I know, they don’t really indorse but whatevs). Johnny B. Truant’s YouTube channel is a trove of info and if you are not easily offended then you can check them out as well. Within these podcast/videos whatever you want to call them, the guys have different podcast for the different projects they have going on so you can fiddle around and see what interests you @ The Self Publishing Podcast Website.

Another YouTube channel I actually just stumbled on the other day is the Rocking Self Publishing podcasts. Simon the host has a great British accent, which isn’t helpful in itself but I like it! He has placed abundant content on his site that is enormously helpful for us authors. If you haven’t subscribed to this channel I highly recommend to check it out.
