Help with my Book Blurb :)

Standard

I have been playing around with book blurbs now that my book is ready to be sold!!  It is up on Amazon for Pre-Sale with a date to GO LIVE Nov 21!!

I have changed the book cover multiple times because of the way it looked from the printing company once printed but I have found one I am in absolute love with and looks great in paperback!

What would you do differently with the book blurb example below?  Don’t hold back 🙂  If you have questions about the publishing process feel free to ask or email me.  If you are a book reviewer and want to talk I am happy to have that discussion as well!

“Agent Colin Banks was doing what he did every day, that is, at least for the last three years.  He was chasing leads and arresting criminals of the State.  The young girl he picked up at the airport he assumed was collateral damage for a money-laundering scheme, he couldn’t have been further from the truth.  His years of service and following the law were about to be flayed open like a fish at a Chinese fish market.  Everything he thought he knew about the government he worked for was a lie and the trail of deceit stretched further than his military trained mind had been prepared to believe.  His young female suspect with her silence would soon make him leave behind his career to save her.  Will she be worth saving in the end?”

Do you hear that? It is my excitement over my new book cover!  I am waiting for my proof to arrive so I can do a read through and then pass to Beta~readers.

This project has been a work of passion and pain!  I have gone through numerous title changes, a massive third person rewrite, and book cover changes.  I can see the finish line, though.     This artist knocked it out of the park and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

In a few weeks I will be posting the first chapter.  What do you all think about me reading the first chapter in a video????!!!!

I’m already deep in book two of the Trellis Saga~~~ YAYAY!!.  Truly, I don’t think I have ever been so excited about a writing project!

Writing Prompt for a Friday Night

Standard

Yellow love

Get Writing!  What are you waiting for!!??

Julianna couldn’t decide between the blue and red dress.  She hadn’t been on a date in eons and had started to wish she had said no to the outing.  Trying to push the negative thoughts that kept popping up in her mind away, had failed.   However she knew, that continuing to be a hermit forever was out of the question.  Could she be a hermit forever?  No, no, she would push forward.  As her lively grandmother had always said, “Without steps forward, you are just a statue, letting life stir and live in circles around you. Step off of your safe pedestal and into the movement of life.”

She looked at the dress again,”Red.  Red it is…”

Writer’s Block?? — Forget about it!!

Hope you are enjoying these Writing Prompts I have been posting the last few weeks.  The more you practice writing the more you will be on your way to finishing a manuscript!  Those who can write— DO!   Writer’s Block?? — Forget about it!!

Helpful Sites for Newbie Authors

Standard

MP900446454

I thought I would share some effective websites and podcasts that have helped me over the years with my writing career. I have shared these with many people and it has been awhile since I have shared a few with my blog readers. My first book Junior Size Faith did well enough, nevertheless what I didn’t do is write a sequel to that book. You will find that this is ONE of the biggest mistakes that any new author makes. It is repeated again and again as a theme of WHAT NOT TO DO through most of the sites I am going to share here. Write, Write and Write some more! When you are done writing—WRITE SOME MORE! I am working on a series of urban fantasy projects now and a few are being tested by beta readers. YaY!

Now, on to my list~

First off, if you have not found Joanna Penn’s website the Creative Penn (with a double n) then you are missing a lot of helpful information that can start you on the road to publishing. She also produces a podcast on YouTube where she interviews other helpful authors that can inspire you to write, along with helpful tips from finance to writing platforms. If you have been at this awhile, I am sure you have heard of Joanna!

A great blog site for authors to get the ‘down and dirty’ of the differences between the big publishing houses and self-publishing is J. A. Konrath’s blog site for Newbie to Publishing. A wealth of information for anyone wanting a crash course for Newbies in this business.

I am going to offer this next site with a little bit of trepidation, not because these guys give bad information but because they have the worst potty mouths this side of a Navy Pier. HOWEVER, they are helpful when it comes to creating worlds, formatting, author interviews, and genre hopping (Which I know, they don’t really indorse but whatevs). Johnny B. Truant’s YouTube channel is a trove of info and if you are not easily offended then you can check them out as well. Within these podcast/videos whatever you want to call them, the guys have different podcast for the different projects they have going on so you can fiddle around and see what interests you @ The Self Publishing Podcast Website.

Another YouTube channel I actually just stumbled on the other day is the Rocking Self Publishing podcasts. Simon the host has a great British accent, which isn’t helpful in itself but I like it! He has placed abundant content on his site that is enormously helpful for us authors. If you haven’t subscribed to this channel I highly recommend to check it out.

I am sure I have left some other helpful sites out, if you have one that you refer to often please share it below. Add your email and follow my blog, just hit the FOLLOW BUTTON and enter your email~~ easy peasy.

The RANCH; first 3 sentences of my soon to be released book…are they Hook Worthy??

Standard

I didn’t expect to get sucked into such a vivid memory of Treeny, however there I was in my mind, on that sandy beach, holding the only person that I loved like a grandmother, leaning over her lifeless body. Blood soaked her clothes and now covered me like warm paint, and the gun that did it lie nearby. I guess staring at the black holstered guns on the FBI agent’s hips, nestled into their persona like a limb is what pulled me backwards into long ago.

Whatcha think? Is it Hook worthy?
